On 4 February 1995 the first German flag society was founded at Achim (near Bremen). In the meanwhile there had been held two national conventions at Leipzig (November 1995) and Ansbach (October 1996). The next rally was October 1997 at Muenster, Westphalia (site of the Westphalian Peace Treaty ending the Thirty Years' War of 1618/48 in Europe).

During the meeting of February 1995 a flag for the society was adopted. It shows the German colors black, red and golden yellow forming a V for "vexillology". The curved knots symbolize the sciences of vexillology.

Meets annually with a special flag for each meeting.
